Part of being a good drummer is being discovered--when you post that video or picture and you get 100 likes or views in a few minutes. Yeah.
It's easy today with social media to post your content on the internet for other's enjoyment. Sometimes it takes awhile for people to notice your videos or photos, but the more you post, I guarantee, the more you will be exposed. Not only do you play the instrument better with every upload, you also gain experience is recording, both audio and visual.
Your talent and/or skill should not be based on your popularity from YouTube, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media. How well you play is based on your practice routines and how much hard work you invest in your instrument. Just because you don't have the number of followers that you favorite drummer has, doesn't mean you don't have the talent. It only means that you haven't been discovered yet.
So, today (April 14, 2016) I want to help you be discovered, or at least let you have a little fun!
I have for you five links to five different styles of music (the choice is yours). Pick one that fits your style of music, or pick one totally different from what you normally play, record it and send the video to me, or the link if uploaded to YouTube, via email (stix.instructor@gmail.com). If you would prefer not to send it by email, post your videos on Instagram or Twitter with a link to the full video and tag it using #stixdl16 or #STIXDL16.
Enter your full video for a chance to be featured on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Depending on the amount of entries, I may not be able to post them all. Regardless, if you want to do this, please don't hesitate. Have fun!
Note: When sending in the video via email, please leave me your first and last name, as well as usernames for all three accounts (if you have all three). This will allow me to tag you so you know I have posted your video, and it will allow me to let others know who you are and how awesome you are!
Ambient Rock: https://youtu.be/ivBpalZVmL0
"Backing track for drums in an ambient rock style, with a strong acoustic guitar presence and a bit of a retro 60's vibe. Tempo is 120 bpm."
Super Funky: https://youtu.be/dkf7Wqra4uA
"Funk backing track with slap bass and electric guitar to help drummers practice playing funky styles. Musically, it's inspired by bands such as Parliament, Sly & the Family Stone, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, Funkadelic, Ohio Players, The Meters, The Average White Band and The Gap Band. This is a drumless track meaning there are no drums, and the tempo is quite laid back at 98 bpm. There is a slight shuffle to the rhythm and I hope this track can help musicians improve and practice playing funk drums."
Punk Rock: https://youtu.be/yk6m8IYYEtc
"Backing track for drums in an ambient rock style, with a strong acoustic guitar presence and a bit of a retro 60's vibe. Tempo is 120 bpm."
Electro: https://youtu.be/qTn42JnH6Os
"Electronic music style drumless backing track influenced by a variety of genres including EDM, Ambient, House and others. Great play along for those who want to play over jam tracks in different and unconventional styles. Good fun and great for your creativity! Tempo is 120 bpm and there are NO DRUMS since this is a backing track for drums. Enjoy!"
Jazz Funk: https://youtu.be/jRzGcS9i3BU
"Jazz/funk soul backing track for drums. Great for jamming with and playing in a funk style. There are no drums so this is a play along for drummers."
Have fun with this! Even if it's not to be discovered.
